Artist in Residence – Magali Nougarede – Bulletin #4

It was good to be back in my studio – polytunnel this week following the festive break. Although I never feel that this is the central theme of the residency, again and again I find myself photographing the actual polytunnel structure. I love how its ramshackle metal skeleton just about manages to resist the battering from the wind and rain (and rain there has been!) day after night after day. I think of the polytunnel as a cathedral of light, a cathedral of a welcoming kind, at a human and plants’ scale. This cathedral doesn’t try to impress and dominate but shows roundness and vulnerability. Its transparent monochromatic shell is a place to breathe and think.
