Oriel Davies has been awarded a National Touring Grant from Arts Council of Wales enabling a hugely ambitious exhibition project titled flora to take place across the breadth of Wales this year and throughout 2016. Launches at Oriel Davies, Newtown, 23 May 2015.
Comprising new commissions, residencies, and work on loan from nine national and international artists, private collectors and UK National and Regional collections. The project will explore the powerful effect flowers have in art.
From common weeds to exotic cultivars, flowers have been and are embedded in lives across the globe, not least those of artists. In this powerful and visually stunning exhibition, work by nine key artists represent ways in which flowers make visible cultural, historical, geographic, social and scientific ideas.
